About Dialogue Fiji
Dialogue Fiji has been working in the area of inclusive and participatory decision making, democratic transition, good governance, conflict analysis and peace-building since 2009. The vision of the organisation is “a Fiji where people respect each other’s’ differences and share a common will to build a free, just, peaceful, and inclusive nation”. The organisation has the mission to “engage with others to create inclusive spaces for dialogue and peace building, and develop capacities in Fiji's society for a culture of Dialogue, resulting in dialogue processes being applied to increase understanding, respect and collaboration across divides”.
Dialogue Fiji has extensive local experience and expertise in organising inclusive and participatory processes which enable citizens to engage in deliberations on issues that affect their lives, both amongst themselves and with policy makers/state actors. Having conducted Dialogues in the local context for more than 7 years now, Dialogue Fiji has perfected its methodologies and approaches to enable effective engagements between stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, capacities and orientations. Dialogue Fiji firmly believes that inclusive and participatory processes are most effective for improving accountability of state actors, in contrast to unilateral action.
Dialogue Fiji also has an extensive network of past participants of Dialogues and supporters of inclusive and participatory processes throughout the country. These groups and individuals (leaders of various communities, organisations and groups) are an important resource for mobilising popular support and awareness for social accountability campaigns. Most of these people have been trained in dialogue processes and have some experience in convening and facilitating deliberative processes. This will be very valuable for maximising citizen engagement (especially that of marginalised and rural communities) in the process.
Dialogue Fiji has been in operation for 7 years now, and has acquired funding from and managed contracts with donors such as European Union, Conciliation Resources and East West Management Institute to implement various Actions with positive outcomes, reviewed and commended by external evaluators.
