Dialogue Fiji (DF) partnered up with The Pacific Centre for Peace-building (PCP) to design and implement elections awareness workshops. The 6 workshops (3 led by PCP and 3 led by DF) had the overall aim of educating participants about various elements of Fiji’s electoral system, laws, institutions and processes.
The objectives of the workshops were to increase understanding of and build trust in the electoral systems, and build capacities of citizens to build understanding comparatively the electoral system, its objectives, the seat allocation methods, Fiji’s election architecture, and international benchmarks for determining credible elections. The activity also had a concern collecting session. This involved having a chat with participants at the end of the day to find out their concerns and issues pertinent to the 2018 national elections. These concerns were communicated to the Supervisor of Elections for his consideration and action.
These workshops were held over one full day and took place in Navua, Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Nausori and Labasa. Below is the participant breakdown of those who attended the workshops hosted by Dialogue Fiji:
