Dialogue on Ethnic Relations
Dialogue Fiji, in consultation with the Citizens’ Constitutional Forum, is organising a 3-day Dialogue Forum on ethnic relations and discrimination at the Pearl Resort from 9-11 November 2017.
The three-day dialogue forum will consist of a number of panel discussions and group deliberations on key elements relating to ethnic relations in Fiji.
This dialogue will feed into the Convention on Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), an instrument for keeping governments to account in relation to its commitments to addressing racial discrimination in Fiji. The CSO working group (chaired by CCF) is currently working on the civil society report for the next cycle of reporting and recognises the value of initiating dialogue in the wider Fijian society for a deeper engagement on the issue.
25 participants have been invited to take part in this deliberative forum from civil society, community leaders, leaders of faith based organisations, key players in the recent peace and reconciliation processes, the media sector, academia, and relevant government departments and officials.
The four panel discussions will cover the following themes:

Dialogue Fiji has been working in the area of inclusive and participatory decision making, democratic transition, good governance, conflict analysis and peace-building since 2009. The vision of the organisation is “a Fiji where people respect each other’s’ differences and share a common will to build a free, just, peaceful, and inclusive nation”. The organisation has the mission to “engage with others to create inclusive spaces for dialogue and peace building, and develop capacities in Fiji's society for a culture of Dialogue, resulting in dialogue processes being applied to increase understanding, respect and collaboration across divides”.
